Traditional Self Defense Curriculum

Blocking and Striking

This is the basic fundamental level of Jiu Jitsu in which many of your techniques are based off of. Within this class you will learn how to block, strike and escape while developing speed, focus, and targeting. These classes often involve striking combinations, allowing you to flow from strike to strike.

Self Defense

Everything we teach in Jiu Jitsu is based around your self-defense. This class focuses on one-on-one situation in which you will learn the how to apply the technique to each other in a controlled enviroment eventually leading to a full-blown threat. In time, you will learn how to escape, counter, or even avoid dangerous situations.

Street Survival
This class focuses on defending against the most common weapons – bat, knife, and gun, as these are the most commonly used. In addition to learning how to disarm the assailant, you will learn how to develop the proper mind-set in such a situation.
Ippons and Throws
Ippons are “one step fighting movements.” Traditionally these techniques end with some type of throw and/or finish. You will learn how to execute traditional fulcrum throws, non-fulcrum throws, and various modern throwing techniques. In addition, these classes will show the beginner student the fundamentals of falling safely. As you progress through the art of Jiu Jitsu, falling will help you build confidence in your techniques and give you the opportunity to learn the devastation of Jiu Jitsu when confronting a full attack head on.

Locks and Holds

This class emphasizes the use of arm bars and chokes to control attacker. Locks and holds classes allow you to use minimal or little force in controlling adverse situations. This class is a favorite class among individuals involved with controlling people without seriously hurting the recipient(s).
Pinning and Grappling

This class focuses on the intimate aspect to self-defense. Within these classes, students learn various types of wrist pins which utilize anatomical knowledge to apply pain to the attacker’s various joint(s) to control, subdue, or even finish an adverse situation. In addition, students learn ground fighting techniques with an emphasis on self-defense.
